MUHIRWA SHIMWA Parfait Marcel
MUHIRWA SHIMWA Parfait Marcel was born and raised in the picturesque hills of Rwanda, surrounded by the vibrant culture and rich history of the country. From a young age, Muhirwa developed a keen interest in the intersection of health and community well-being.
Driven by a passion for improving public health, Muhirwa pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition at the prestigious Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR) and later on continued with a Master of Public Health (MPH) at the explicit University of Rwanda (UR). During their academic journey, Muhirwa demonstrated exceptional dedication and a genuine commitment to understanding the intricate relationship between diet, health, and the broader community.
Upon graduating with honors, Muhirwa embarked on a dynamic professional journey that would shape their career as a nutritionist and public health activist. Joining the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA), Muhirwa took on roles in food products registration, food industries and outlets inspection and safety monitoring as well as controlling food products’ importation and exportation that allowed them to contribute significantly to the development and implementation of nutrition policies aimed at enhancing the overall health of the Rwandan population.
Muhirwa is focusing on bridging the gap between nutritional science and public awareness. Actively engaging with local communities, conducting workshops and seminars to educate individuals on the importance of adopting healthy dietary habits.
As a trainer in food handling courses which is a major requirement to obtain an operation license with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) among versatile tourism entities in Rwanda, Muhirwa also plays a key role in designing and implementing programs that address malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable populations.
Innovations and Research:
Muhirwa’s commitment to advancing public health extends to innovative research endeavors. Spearheading projects that explore the use of technology to monitor and improve nutritional outcomes, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to addressing health issues in the modern era.

Muhirwa’s outstanding contributions to the field of nutrition and public health did not go unnoticed. For his dedication, Muhirwa has received accolades and awards on both national & international levels from prominent organizations including but not limited to the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) and the International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI).
Outside of his professional commitments, Muhirwa is known for his warm and approachable demeanor. He enjoys engaging in community events, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility for public health.
